Q: What is a hermaphroditic connector?
A: A hermaphroditic connector is "genderless", meaning it is neither
"male" or "female". It can be mated to another hermaphroditic connecter,
which provides several advantages in certain applications.
- Either end of the cable can be plugged into the mating connectors
- The cable assemblies can be linked end to end in series (concatenated)
regardless of which end is used
- Since both ends of the cable use the same connector, it means
one less part number to stock and support in the field, and often
gains cost advantages due to the quantity breaks.
Q: Does YIYI supply COTS versions?
A: Yes, virtually all our connectors and termini are available as "Commercial"
versions.
Q: What is the difference between the military and commercial
versions of connectors and termini?
A: YIYI Factory manufactures both connectors and termini in full accordance
with the applicable Military Specifications. We are listed on the military's
Qualified Parts List (QPL) thus allowingYIYI to ship under the military part
numbers. These parts are also available under commercial part numbers. The commercial
and military parts are physically identical other than the military marking.
Our customers can be assured that when ordering parts to the military specifications
all documentation and testing is done to ensure 100% compliance with the applicable
military specification
Q: Does YIYI only sell connectors and termini, or are
full cable assemblies available as well?
A: YIYI is fully equipped to fabricate a full range of cable assemblies for
commercial, military or any unique customer designed specification. Please contact

Q: Can I perform my own terminations?
A: Yes, YIYI will support your programs in a way that makes the most sense for
your company. We can provide connectors and termini as components or as completed
cable assemblies. We also provide YIYI certified training on our products through
one of our distributors, Kitco Fiber Optics.
Q: Does YIYI have a list of fiber optic cables that are
recommended for use with its connectors?
A: No, virtually all cables, jacketed and non-jacketed, are compatible. Jell-filled
non-buffered cables can be accommodated. If you have questions on a specific

Q: How do I determine the proper callout for YIYI part
numbers on my drawings?
A: Either your local YIYI representative or YIYI's Applications Engineering
will gladly work with you to develop the proper callout for the application.
